My recent paintings are a result of my struggle with the dialectic relationship between order and intuition. The first step towards resolution was deciding on a visual unit that would be a mass-produced armature for all subsequent painting sets in a series. Doing this enabled me to create objects of contemplation without the distraction of theme or symbols. To further mediate this conflict, I have found a repetitive system that I can apply in generating work that satisfies my need to begin work from a controlled set of instructions, while later being able to complete the final sets intuitively. I see the possibility for use of individual, identical visual units much as a molecular biologist might view carbon atoms or as a civil engineer might create a network of highways. Individual paintings that alone are simple geometric armatures when bonded together can be engineered to invent new indefinite visual systems within a geometric matrix.
